Stand Construction Media – The Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre ( SEC ) has announced Dominic McKay as its new Chief Executive Officer on Monday 20 January. The appointment comes shortly after McKay joined the SEC in May from his position as Chief Executive Officer of the European Professional Rugby Club (EPCR) in Switzerland.

In a major announcement on Monday 20th January, the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) has announced the appointment of Dominic McKay as its new Chief Executive. The structural change reflects the board’s determination to lead the institution into an exciting new era. Previously Chief Executive of the European Professional Rugby Club (EPCR) in Switzerland, Dominic McKay will work closely with the SEC’s shareholders and team to guide the campus towards its ambitious goals, building on existing plans and new strategies.

Dominic McKay joins SEC as the institution approaches its 40th anniversary. 2025 is set to be a special year, packed with exciting events on the campus calendar, with international acts including Sabrina Carpenter, Iron Maiden, Kylie and Billie Eilish set to take to the OVO Hydro stage. These events will not only enhance SEC’s reputation but also help boost the local and national economy.

The campus is also planning seven exciting new exhibitions, including events such as Ideal Home, All Energy and Caravan Scotland. In addition, the SEC will host major conferences, including the British Society of Haematology and the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. This shows that the SEC is not only a venue for leisure and entertainment events, but also a major centre for scientific conferences and meetings.

Dominic McKay has been recognised for his significant experience in the sports and entertainment industry, particularly in the rugby and football arenas. He is renowned at EPCR for developing and implementing innovative strategies in the areas of event leadership and management . He has also been a key figure in the transformation of these organisations as CEO of Celtic Football Club and Chief Executive of the Scottish Rugby Union, where he has delivered significant transformational change, including the design of modern , customer-driven business models on a global scale. His achievements include attracting major international sporting events, notably hosting matches at the National Stadium, Murrayfield, and doubling Scottish Rugby’s commercial revenue.

Morag McNeill, Chair of the SEC, also expressed his delight at the appointment, saying: “We are delighted to welcome Dominic as our new CEO. He joins us at a crucial time as we develop our strategies for the future of the campus over the next decade. His experience at national and international levels will help us achieve our objectives and build strong relationships with key stakeholders and partners, particularly Glasgow City Council, who is a major shareholder for us.”

The SEC’s new CEO, Dominic McKay, said in response to the appointment: “I am delighted to be joining the SEC as Chief Executive. This is an exciting time and an opportunity to work with the Board and the team to develop and implement new strategies. I have been impressed by the Board’s ambition and determination. We want to build on the SEC’s reputation as a truly global destination, develop new programmes for the campus and ensure that our venues continue to attract the greatest national and international artists and events. The SEC has a fantastic reputation and we want to take that reputation to the next level.”

Glasgow City Council Leader Susan Aitken also expressed her hope that Dominic, with his exceptional record as a true ambassador for the SEC and Glasgow at this crucial time, would play an effective role. She stressed that Dominic has strong experience and strategy and is certain to have a positive impact on the entertainment business and industry for years to come.

With this appointment, the Scottish Event Campus hopes to significantly build on its previous successes and achieve its ambitious goals with new leadership and innovative approaches. This change could be a turning point in the history of the SEC, leading it into a new era of success and growth.
